A water police is planned to be launched in Kyrgyzstan. Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Almaz Turgunbaev announced at a meeting of the Parliament.

He presented the draft law «On Inland Water Transport» in the first reading.

Almaz Turgunbaev noted that three types of transport are used in Kyrgyzstan: land, air and water. There has been no law on water transport in the Kyrgyz Republic since independence.

According to the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, about 1,500 units of water transport have been registered to date.

«Each ship is registered. Their drivers undergo training in the Department of Water and Land Transport, after which they are issued a license. We have only three employees, who monitor water transport on Issyk-Kul lake. The Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently developing a bill on opening of a water police,» Almaz Turgunbaev said.
