The interdepartmental commission created to implement the Law «On burial and funeral services» held its first meeting.
The Director of the State Agency for Civil Service and Local Government Bodies Kudaibergen Bazarbaev is its head. He noted that the burial is carried out taking into account religious preferences and traditions that do not contradict the generally recognized principles of morality and ethics.
«Islam, practiced by the majority of Kyrgyzstan’s population, has its own burial rituals and funeral rules. There are also strict requirements to the appearance of monuments on Muslim graves, which differ from Christian and other religions,» Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said.
Earlier, President Sadyr Japarov signed a decree aimed at implementing the Law «On burial and funeral services».
According to this document, every citizen has the right to burial in accordance with his or her will, customs and religious rites. Burial should be carried out taking into account religious traditions and not contradict generally recognized moral and ethical principles.
The document states that there are own rituals and rules related to burial in the Kyrgyz Republic, where the majority of the population professes Islam. However, wastefulness, vanity and disregard for the social status of other people are observed in the modern society. Relatives of the deceased often build large mausoleums and set up luxurious monuments, which causes public discontent.
