The Tien Shan Mountains and regions of Central Asia are among the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov said at a Green Energy Forum in Bishkek.

«If we do not take measures and stop the average temperature increase on the planet at 1.5 degrees, we will face catastrophic changes,» Baisalov emphasized. He noted that the temperature in Central Asia is rising faster than the planet’s average, which has a negative impact on the region’s economy and climate.

Edil Baisalov also noted the importance of switching to energy-saving technologies in various sectors of the economy — from agriculture to transport and power industry. However, he expressed concern that the pace of introduction of the green economy in Kyrgyzstan remains insufficient.

As an example, he cited the problem with chargers for electric vehicles. According to him, new residential buildings should be built with infrastructure for installing charging stations, but the country is not yet ready for mass purchases and introduction of such technologies.

«We must act faster and more decisively to meet the challenges of the time,» the Deputy Head of the Cabinet concluded.
