Head of State Commission, U.S. Ambassador discuss rights of religious minorities

Director of the State Commission on Religious Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Azamat Yusupov met with the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kyrgyzstan Lesslie Viguerie. The press service of the religious department informed 24.kg news agency.

The meeting took place on October 16. The Ambassador noted the importance of freedom of religion and the fight against violent extremism in Kyrgyzstan and expressed interest in the work of the State Commission for the Protection of the Rights of Religious Organizations with a small number of followers.

In turn, Azamat Yusupov told about the unique model of freedom of religion formed in Central Asia and the Kyrgyz Republic itself, noting that the state ensures equal treatment of all faiths in accordance with the laws of the country. At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness for further cooperation.
