Special status to be granted to five more universities in Kyrgyzstan

Special status will be granted to five more higher education institutions in Kyrgyzstan. President Sadyr Japarov amended the Decree «On measures to increase the potential and competitiveness of educational organizations of higher professional education in the Kyrgyz Republic.» The press service of the head of state reported.

The following educational institutions have been added to the list of universities with special status:

  • Batken State University;
  • Issyk-Kul State University named after Kasym Tynystanov;
  • Jalal-Abad State University named after Bekmamat Osmonov;
  • Naryn State University named after Satybaldy Naamatov;
  • Talas State University.

Decree of the President «On measures to increase the potential and competitiveness of educational organizations of higher professional education in the Kyrgyz Republic» was issued on July 18, 2022, which granted a special status, providing for a broad organizational, financial and academic autonomy to:

  • Kyrgyz National University;
  • Kyrgyz State Technical University;
  • Kyrgyz National Agrarian University;
  • Kyrgyz State Medical Academy;
  • Osh State University.

The Kyrgyz Economic University has been granted the status of a research university. The institution «Professional Lyceum of Information Technologies No. 99 under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic» has also been granted a special status.

The Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University became a university with a special status in March 2024.
