Equipment used for telephone fraud found in Bishkek

Police officers seized special SimBox equipment in one of the capital’s apartments, which is used to disguise international calls as local ones, deceiving the mobile network. The Main Internal Affairs Department of Bishkek reported.

As part of the criminal case initiated on the fact of fraud, investigators, together with the investigative service of the Main Internal Affairs Department, conducted a search of the apartment and found a SimBox in the form of a block containing 128 cells. The block was disguised as a music amplifier. 120 SIM cards of local cellular companies were seized. During the investigative activities, Telegram channels were found that were called «MVD KR», «National Bank of the KR», as well as a photo of a fake police officer’s ID.

Investigators assume that the perpetrators introduced themselves as police officers and employees of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic. Citizen T.K. was delivered to the investigative service of the Main Department of Internal Affairs on suspicion of involvement in this crime, all necessary investigative actions are being carried out.

It was established during the investigation that the international fraudsters are located outside the Kyrgyz Republic. Using SimBox, they called citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic and defrauded them of large sums.

SimBox is a device that is often used by fraudsters to make international calls at the price of domestic or free calls.
