The Government of Uzbekistan has instructed the Ministry of Digital Technologies to organize free distribution of active tourist SIM cards to tourists at airports, railway stations and border checkpoints. The corresponding decree was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It is noted that this project is being launched with a trial period, its goal is to significantly improve the conditions of stay of tourists in the country.
As experts emphasize, the main problem for foreign travelers in any country is access to the Internet and the ability to stay in touch. A free SIM card will allow tourists to quickly connect to a mobile network without wasting time searching for local operators or Wi-Fi.
Implementation of such a project can make Uzbekistan more attractive to tourists. They often look for convenience, and if a free SIM card is available in the republic, this will give an advantage over other destinations. Guests will be able to stay in touch at any time, which is important for their safety. If necessary, they will be able to quickly contact emergency services or their loved ones.
If the project proves successful, it could become the basis for further development of digital services for tourists, such as mobile guides, discounts through applications, and other services.
