A joint digital healthcare program of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan and the United Nations has been launched. The press center of the ministry reported.

The program is reportedly aimed at improving healthcare in the country by integrating digital information systems. This will facilitate residents’ access to vital medical information.

«The joint program with a total budget of $4.03 million will work from 2024 to 2027, paying special attention to modernizing digital healthcare systems, improving public electronic services and expanding telemedicine to cover low-income communities,» the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

One of the key features of the program is improvement of the digital health profile. This includes connecting three million vaccination records to the national electronic health record (EHR) platform, which will help about 225,000 children under 12 months old receive the necessary vaccinations. In addition, at least 200,000 people will be able to view their lab test results online, which will save time on receiving the necessary medical care.

The program also focuses on supporting vulnerable groups. About 120,000 people with disabilities will receive digital disability certificates, and 280,000 people will receive digital sick leave certificates, which will improve their ability to receive the services they need.

Telemedicine will be expanded, providing access to medical consultations to more than 700,000 children aged from 0 to 14 years old. In addition, 60 medical institutions will provide specialized care to about 140,000 mothers and newborns, all of whom will be connected to the EHR platform.

The ministry added that the joint program, funded through the UN SDG Fund with the participation of the European Union, Spain and Sweden and implemented by WHO, UNDP, UNFPA and UNICEF under the leadership of the UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic, is aimed at strengthening the digital healthcare system of Kyrgyzstan, especially for women, children and vulnerable groups in rural and remote areas, ensuring access to quality health care for everyone.
