At least 21 people have died in fires in Kyrgyzstan for four months of 2024. Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, Urmatbek Shamyrkanov, announced at a meeting of Parliament.

According to statistics, in 2022, there were 3,137 fires and 29 people died in them. In 2023, there were 3,498 fires and 35 people died.

In turn, the Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations presented to the deputies a bill on amendments to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic «On Physical Culture and Sports».

The goal is to increase the level of preparedness of the personnel of fire and rescue units for the effective performance of their duties. The objective of the bill is to enshrine in legislation the legal basis for organizing events for military-applied physical training of firefighters.

At the same time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations notes that the fire and rescue units have staff units that are replaced by civilian personnel (hired persons). The requirements for such personnel do not include physical training, so civilians cannot train on par with military personnel.

Deputies approved the bill in the first reading.
