Gulshat Asylbaeva is known for the fact that, as a member of Parliament, she initiated the so-called law on fakes (officially called «On protection from the dissemination of inaccurate (false) information»), which was supposed to combat fakes on social media. Not a single fake account has been blocked under it yet. However, in practice, the law is mainly used to restrict independent media.

President Sadyr Japarov signed the Law «On Protection from Inaccurate (False) Information» on August 23, 2021.
