Electricity supply restrictions are being introduced in Tajikistan from September 22. Barqi Tojik company, controlled by the country’s government, reported on Facebook.

The reason for the blackouts is the reduction of water resources in the areas where Vakhsh River forms due to insufficient precipitation last winter.

«This, together with the growing demand for electricity, has led to a shortage of resources. It is expected that this year the deficit may exceed 1 billion kilowatt-hours. The restrictions are being introduced now to ensure a more stable supply of electricity during the cold season,» the statement says.
