Over 2.5 years of war, the number of Ukrainians and Russians killed and wounded has reached roughly 1 million people. The Wall Street Journal reported, citing Ukrainian sources and Western intelligence data.
According to Ukraine, about 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed by the beginning of this year, and 400,000 were wounded. Estimates of Russian losses vary, according to Western intelligence, the number of killed may be about 200,000 people, and the wounded — about 400,000.
The media outlet notes that it is difficult to estimate the losses, since neither side publishes official data. Large losses, according to the WSJ, will have long-term consequences for both countries, which even before the war began were facing a reduction in population due to economic and social problems.
