At the initiative of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC, employees of the enterprise, specialists from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, representatives of local government bodies, rural residents and volunteers took part in a joint campaign on cleaning the shore and bottom of Issyk-Kul lake from household waste. The company reported.
Kumtor Gold Company President Almazbek Baryktabasov noted the importance of the event for preserving the flora and fauna of Issyk-Kul lake.
«During the day, we plan to clean some beaches in Ton and Jeti-Oguz districts from household waste, as well as clean the bottom of Issyk-Kul lake from garbage and illegal fishing nets,» he said and emphasized the importance of such environmental events on an ongoing basis.
«Unfortunately, often individual vacationers, without thinking about the fragility of the lake’s ecosystem, leave plastic bottles and bags, food scraps, cigarette butts on the beach or throw them into the lake. We hope that our efforts on cleaning the shore and bottom of Issyk-Kul lake from garbage will inspire other citizens to actively participate in such good initiatives. Together we can do a lot, and it is in our power to jointly achieve the set goal — to form a culture of cleanliness among fellow citizens and preserve the unique Issyk-Kul lake for future generations,» he concluded.
