Violence against women is contrary to Sharia. The Deputy Kazy of Osh city, Muratali Mamadiyar uulu, stated at a meeting in local mosque.

According to him, respect for women occupies a special place in Islam. Faithful Muslims always remember that caring for their mother, daughter, wife, sister is their responsibility. Both the father and the husband are responsible for this, and in old age — the son.

The cleric admitted that despite the fact that violence against women is not allowed and is condemned in the civilized world, such facts do occur. «This is contrary to Sharia,» he stressed.

UN Women:

• 736 million — the total number of women in the world, who have been subjected to physical and/or sexualized violence by an intimate partner or sexualized violence by another person at least once in their lives (World Health Organization statistics);
• Of these, more than 640 million (87 percent) women and girls aged 15 and above have suffered from partner violence;
• 98 percent of relationships that involve any other type of violence will involve economic violence;
• 95 percent of men, who use physical violence, also use psychological violence.
