The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan upheld the City Court’s decision in the case against activist Kanykei Aranova. Lawyer Zamir Zhooshev told 24.kg news agency.

Earlier, the Bishkek City Court sentenced Kanykei Aranova to 3.5 years in prison, finding her guilty under Articles 330 «Incitement of racial, ethnic, national, religious or interregional hatred (discord)» and 327 «Public calls for the violent seizure of power» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The defense asked to acquit the accused or to leave the district court’s decision in force, since her guilt has not been proven and she has a minor daughter.

By the decision of the Pervomaisky District Court, Kanykei Aranova was fined 120,000 soms and released from custody on her own recognizance.

The activist was detained in Moscow on February 1, 2024. After the detention, she was taken to Kyrgyzstan along with her 11-year-old daughter. Kanykei Aranova is known as an active social media user. She was already brought to justice in the fall of 2022. The police called her a blogger. At that time, the activist spoke out on the transfer of lands of Kempir-Abad reservoir.
