Reduction in the number of minibuses has improved air quality in Bishkek. The Chief Specialist of the Atmospheric Air Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan Chyngyzbek Abdymalik uulu said on the air of Birinchi Radio.
He recalled that more than 3,000 minibuses served their routes in the city two years ago. After the City Hall began a campaign on reduction of the number and removal of minibuses from the main streets of the capital, diesel fuel consumption decreased by 100 tons per day.
Chyngyzbek Abdymalik uulu also told about the situation with boiler houses. According to him, there are 74 boiler houses in Bishkek. Every day they burn at least 10 tons of coal. Only a ton of solid fuel emits up to 100 kilograms into the atmosphere.
«All boilers have been converted to electricity and gas. Coal consumption has been reduced. There is a law on the protection of atmospheric air. «All boiler houses in the country must have filters, if they run on coal,» the official added.
He believes that the air in the city will be significantly cleaner in the upcoming autumn-winter season. «The Bishkek sanitary landfill had burned for decades, the fire has been completely extinguished. We have planted 5 hectares of forest,» Chyngyzbek Abdymalik uulu noted.
