Four previously detained members of Yakyn-Inkar religious extremist movement, banned in Kyrgyzstan, have renounced their ideology and promised to adhere to a secular lifestyle. The press center of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCNS) reported.

They were detained on June 29, 2024 for active promotion of extremist ideology in the city of Jalal-Abad and Suzak district. In addition, as the security services noted, due to their beliefs, they did not allow their family members to receive secondary education and medical care.

«During their detention in institution No. 53, the Penitentiary Service conducted appropriate explanatory and preventive work with the detainees on renouncement of extremist ideology. As a result, they realized the error of their actions and publicly renounced Yakyn-Inkar ideology. Subsequently, the employees of SCNS, together with local authorities, conducted explanatory talks with the families of the detainees, as a result of which commitments were received to provide the children with the opportunity to get a school education from the new academic year, as well as to register them for getting healthcare services at the polyclinic,» the statement says.

The SCNS continues work to prevent the recruitment of new adherents into the ranks of banned religious extremist movements and organizations.
