At least 368 high-mountain lakes in Kyrgyzstan pose a risk of bursting. The Director of the Department for Monitoring and Forecasting Emergency Situations at the Ministry of Emergency Situations Daurbek Sakyev told at a press conference.
In total, according to him, there are more than 2,000 high-mountain lakes in the republic.
«We are currently conducting monitoring using remote sensing or ground survey. Based on this, recommendations are issued for prevention and protective measures,» Daurbek Sakyev said.
He added that monitoring and surveys of hazardous areas are carried out annually, and forecast materials are prepared.
«In January — February, these forecasts are transferred to local government bodies for the adoption of preventive measures. Every month, depending on the hydrometeorological situation and conditions, the ministry issues weather alerts and sends SMS messages,» the Director of the Department concluded.
