A reader contacted 24.kg news agency and reported the lack of automobile gas at several gas stations near Bishkek. According to him, the problem is observed at four gas stations: on the highway to the airport, in Manas village, at the turn to Lesnoye village and at the entrance to Bishkek at Gazprom gas station.
24.kg news agency asked the head of the Association of Oil Traders of Kyrgyzstan, Kanat Eshatov, for a comment. He named the reasons for the fuel shortage.
«The problem has been going on for almost a month and a half. Some gas stations have automobile gas, while others do not. The main reason is the shortage of railway tank cars in Russia. If Russia can supply them, the situation will stabilize. Let’s not get so far ahead, but it is possible that Kyrgyzstan may face a shortage of automobile gas in mid-August,» Kanat Eshatov explained.
When asked about the impact of gas shortage in Kazakhstan on the situation in Kyrgyzstan, the head of oil traders said that neighbors provide themselves with gas, and the situation in Kazakhstan does not affect the Kyrgyz Republic.
In addition, 24.kg news agency asked whether municipal transport is experiencing problems with gas shortages, given that buses in Bishkek run on gas. The Department of Transport of the City Hall explained that buses in Bishkek run on methane, while cars run on propane. That is, municipal transport does not have this problem.
Queues at gas stations were registered in Bishkek in early July 2024. Car owners reported then that the problem lasted for several days and at the same time the fuel prices increased.
