A large-scale administrative-territorial reform is being carried out in Kyrgyzstan for the first time in 30 years, showing good results. The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Japarov announced during a meeting of the Board of the Presidential Executive Office.
According to him, the first results of the administrative-territorial reform in pilot mode in Tyup district and Naryn region were recognized as successful and were implemented in other regions.
«As a result of large-scale work in the country, rural districts and cities have been enlarged, the number of rural districts has been reduced from 452 to 217, the administrative boundaries of 235 enlarged rural districts and 33 cities have been approved in the schematic maps,» Akylbek Japarov said.
It should be noted that the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan adopted the Law «On administrative-territorial units at the level of aiyl aimaks and cities of the Kyrgyz Republic» in three readings.
The head of the Cabinet emphasized that the results of the reform will lead to further development of the regions, improvement of living conditions of the population, will increase the availability and quality of services at the local level and, most importantly, will contribute to the development of the regions.
Recall, as a result of the administrative-territorial reform, the area of Bishkek was increased to 38,600 hectares from 12,900. Therefore, it is necessary to revise the existing boundaries of the capital.
