The deposit base of the country’s banking system reached 522 billion soms. The head of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic Melis Turgunbaev said at a press conference.
According to him, in the first half of 2024, the indicator increased by 21 percent, which «shows an increase in confidence in the banking system and an increase in the savings behavior of the population.»
The loan portfolio of banks in the first six months of 2024 increased by 9 percent, reaching 281 billion soms. The growth of lending in national currency amounted to 10.3 percent.
Melis Turgunbaev noted that the easing of the interest rate policy of the National Bank in April-May 2024 led to changes in the behavior of interbank market participants. Short-term rates were formed below the discount rate of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
