First bone marrow transplant operation to be performed in Kyrgyzstan

The first bone marrow transplant operation is planned to be performed in Kyrgyzstan in August. Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliev told at a press conference.

He noted that many children with cancer in the country need such an operation.

«Many of our specialists have been trained in Turkey and Russia, the necessary equipment has been purchased, and on August 2 at the National Center for Maternal and Child Welfare we will begin bone marrow transplantation,» Alymkadyr Beishenaliev said.

The minister also noted that kidney and liver transplant surgeries have begun free of charge in Kyrgyzstan. The costs are covered from the presidential fund.

«Sadyr Japarov has set the task to introduce organ transplantation in the Kyrgyz Republic. Many Kyrgyz people need such operations. They are forced to go abroad if they have money. And on February 1, kidney transplant operation began free of charge in Kyrgyzstan, with one or two transplants every week. About 150 people are waiting in line, and about 10 people are being prepared for the operation. The problem is donors. There are many people who need liver transplants. After the training of our specialists, such operations have begun. Two patients have already been transplanted an organ, 15 patients are currently being prepared,» he added.
