Deputy Director of the Center for Dangerous Infections of Kyrgyzstan Nurbolot Usenbaev confirmed in a comment to 24.kg news agency that Russia intends to build a laboratory in the Kyrgyz Republic to combat dangerous infections.
Earlier, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko announced this during a video conference, adding that money for these purposes has been already allocated in the Russian budget.
Onishchenko’s colleague Nurbolot Usenbaev explained that Kyrgyzstan itself asked the Russian side to help in creating a joint scientific center for the study of infectious diseases. It should have a laboratory with a high level of biosafety for personnel. All CIS countries have such laboratories, and the Kyrgyz Republic should have such opportunities.
However, Nurbolot Usenbaev did not answer what is the fundamental difference between the Russian biological laboratory and the Canadian one, and why Kyrgyzstan denied the construction proposal of the last one and accepted the proposal of Russia. He only said that the construction of the Canadian biological laboratory did not take place due to various reasons. But the 2008 agreement with Canada has not been procedurally terminated to this day.
