Kyrgyzstan has imposed a ban on the collection and use of aconite and other wild plants. Kumar Mambetaliev, head of the Department of Bioresources of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision, told at a press conference.
He recalled that a resolution «On the introduction of a temporary ban (moratorium) on the use of certain species of flora» was adopted by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers on May 28.
The ban was imposed for three years. It is not allowed to harvest and collect wild medicinal, technical, food plant raw materials of the following plant species:
— Macrotomia (Macrotomia DS),
— Arnebia (Arnebia Forssk),
— Dictamnus L,
— Aconite (Aconitum L),
— Aflatun onion (Allium aflatunense B.Fedtsch).
«The moratorium was imposed to conserve certain plant species. Citizens collect them and try to sell them. There is information that these plant species are often exported to China. A fine is imposed in case of revealing the facts of collection of wild plants. I would like to urge citizens to abide by the law and not to collect them,» Kumar Mambetaliev said.
If a citizen witnesses such illegal actions, he or she can report it to the hotline at 0312540521. For this, a reward from the state — 50 percent of the value of the detained goods is provided.
Recall, aconite began to be used in hospitals for the treatment of coronavirus diseases during the second wave of the pandemic in 2021. The head of the Ministry of Health claimed the benefits of the poisonous plant. After that, several victims of poisoning ended up in hospitals.
