Over 4,000 migrants in 2024 failed to obtain Russian citizenship because of poor knowledge of the Russian language. TASS reported, citing the Interior Ministry of Russia.
According to the official representative of the Russian Interior Ministry Irina Volk, from January 1, 2024 to apply for participation in the state program of assistance in voluntary resettlement of compatriots living abroad to the Russian Federation, it is necessary to confirm the level of proficiency in the Russian language, sufficient to communicate orally and in writing in the language environment. «More than 4,000 applicants failed to obtain Russian citizenship without knowledge of the Russian language. In addition, active work continues to suppress the activities of organized criminal groups, specializing in fake Russian language exams for migrants,» she said.
According to the Russian Interior Ministry, since December 2023, the number of examination centers has decreased fivefold. «They ceased their activities because of the revealed violations. About 14,000 people in the presence of police officers did not pass the exam. The internal affairs bodies refused to accept almost 5,000 certificates of people who actually do not speak Russian,» the Interior Ministry representative added.
