The Parliament of Turkey has adopted amendments to the law on civil aviation, which tighten, among other things, the procedures for screening passengers at airports. The new rules will comply with the norms of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention). Habertürk TV channel reports.
Now all passengers’ belongings will be inspected twice. The main airports of Turkey have two inspection points: at the entrance to the general access zone and in the so-called «clean zone» after check-in. Turkish airport security officers will be able to inspect passengers’ belongings at the entrance to the terminal and at the entrance to the boarding area. They will be able to check both personal luggage and electronic devices.
In case of refusal to provide things for inspection, the passenger will not be allowed either in the airport building itself or in the departure area. Prohibited things will be confiscated immediately on the spot.
The innovations also imply fines from $620 to $15,600 if the crew of the airplane did not notify the authorities about any violations of the law on board during the flight.
