Akylbek Japarov urges National Bank employees to step out of comfort zone

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov held a meeting at the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

Current issues related to the macroeconomic situation in the country and monetary policy were discussed. Akylbek Japarov emphasized the importance of maintaining financial stability and sustainable development of the economy, noting the need to conduct an effective monetary policy and ensure the stability of the national currency.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers paid special attention to the appointment of a new chairman of the National Bank, Melis Turgunbaev, who was given the confidence of the President.

He emphasized the need to carry out systemic reforms in the National Bank to increase its efficiency.

Akylbek Japarov set a number of tasks for the new management of the National Bank aimed at improving Kyrgyzstan’s position in international rankings, introducing new technologies, including fintech startups, accelerating the introduction of digital som, ensuring a full transition to a cashless economy and stepping up measures to reduce the shadow economy.

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers instructed to make proposals on changing the money transfer system as soon as possible, noting that the fee for non-cash transfers of funds is paid by citizens, thereby slowing down the transition to non-cash payments.

Akylbek Japarov called on employees of the National Bank to step out of their comfort zone, noting that government reforms are reaching all corners of the country.

He mentioned the recent statement of the UN Secretary-General regarding the transformation of Kyrgyzstan from a «sleeping beauty into a galloping horse,» emphasizing that the pace of the country’s development impresses partners and should not be slowed down.

«By the 100th anniversary of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region, more than 100 industrial and 100 social projects will be launched. Two strategic projects — the construction of Kambarata hydropower station-1 and China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway will be started in the near future. The financial sector of the republic must always be at the forefront and keep up with the times. It’s time to change the situation in the banking system and move to a new level,» the head of the Cabinet concluded.
