An extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) room has been opened at the Urology Department of the National Hospital in Bishkek. The press center of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan reported.

According to Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliev, about 30-50 patients visit the hospital’s urology department every day, 60 percent of whom come with kidney stones. The best method for removing stones from the ureter or kidney without surgery is to crush the stone using special equipment.

As part of the public-private partnership (PPP) project, a modern shock wave lithotripsy device was installed in the National Hospital and an ESWL room was launched, which will help improve the quality of medical care and significantly reduce the patient’s time in the hospital.

The Ministry of Health noted that on June 28, 2024, another ESWL room was opened at the Jalal-Abad Regional Clinical Hospital.

«The project, the total investment of which is $400,000, is aimed at improving the quality of medical services in the field of treatment of urolithiasis and increasing the availability of modern medical technologies for the population of the republic,» the statement says.
