Climate change remains one of the most pressing problems of our time. OSCE Chair-in-Office Ian Borg stated at a meeting with Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Jeenbek Kulubaev.
According to him, it is necessary to step up the efforts of the parties to increase the resilience of communities to natural disasters.
«This involves risk reduction, early warning and increasing crisis management capacity throughout the OSCE region, including Central Asia. Such initiatives are clear proof of the importance of our in-depth cooperation,» Ian Borg said.
The Chair-in-Office also highlighted ongoing OSCE initiatives to support regional cooperation on border security, strengthen measures to combat human trafficking through practical exercises, and promote regional initiatives to manage risks associated with climate change.
He added that for more than three decades, the OSCE has been supporting Kyrgyzstan in fulfilling its obligations in all three dimensions of security.
«This year marks the 25th anniversary of the OSCE presence in the country, based on common goals and values, joint efforts to ensure our security. Over the years, the Programme Office in Bishkek has implemented hundreds of projects aimed at strengthening security throughout the region. The OSCE Academy is located in Kyrgyzstan, which provides high-quality university education to 655 students from Central Asia, Afghanistan, Mongolia and other countries,» the OSCE Chair-in-Office said.
The OSCE Chair-in-Office Ian Borg arrived in Kyrgyzstan. He met with President Sadyr Japarov, Speaker of Parliament Nurlanbek Shakiev, Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and Director of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security Ularbek Sharsheyev.
