It is necessary to ensure access to safe drinking water for more than 10 million people living in Central Asia. The Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank Nikolai Podguzov said, opening the Business Forum.
According to him, the region also needs to eliminate the problem of water shortage for irrigation in the amount of 5-12 cubic kilometers. To meet the growing demand for electricity, it is necessary to unlock the region’s hydro potential. And all this is possible together.
«Cooperation between international development banks will increase funding for the economies of the participating countries and will allow to more effectively address global challenges at the regional level. I believe that partnership between banks is not limited to the simple formation of syndicates. There are many more areas of cooperation. No major international development bank can single-handedly build an infrastructure facility worth several billion dollars, be it a hydroelectric power plant or some kind of transport hub. Cooperation on the capital market is necessary. Cooperation between international development banks is especially useful where long-term international efforts are needed. In such projects, international banks perform an anchor function. The strategy of the Eurasian Development Bank involves investing almost $11 billion in the economies of shareholder states by 2026. The challenges facing the region are global. And it is impossible without joining efforts,» Nikolai Podguzov stressed.
