The Legislative Chamber of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted amendments recognizing foreign citizens as «undesirable» for stay in the country. Uzbek media report.
The basis for such recognition may be public speeches and actions that threaten the sovereignty, integrity and security of the republic, inciting hostility, or humiliating the honor, dignity or history of the people.
Persons recognized as undesirable will be deprived of the right to enter Uzbekistan for five years.
In addition, they will be prohibited from opening bank accounts, purchasing real estate, participating in the privatization of state property, as well as entering into financial and contractual obligations in the country. The deportation of persons who are not allowed to stay in the country will be carried out in accordance with established procedures.
«The adoption of this law is aimed at ensuring national security, protecting the constitutional order and strengthening interethnic harmony in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The document will make it possible to more effectively counter extremism, terrorism and other threats coming from foreign citizens,» the press service of the Legislative Chamber said in a statement.
For the law to come into force, it must be approved by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, after which the document will be sent to the President of Uzbekistan for signature.
