President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov held talks with Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis during his working visit to Brussels (Kingdom of Belgium). The press service of the head of state reported.
The sides discussed issues of trade and economic cooperation, attraction of investments, implementation of joint projects in the mining industry, green economy, as well as introduction of digital technologies and development of human resources.
Valdis Dombrovskis noted that signing of the Agreement on Extended Partnership and Cooperation opens new opportunities for the implementation of mutually beneficial trade and economic projects. He emphasized the readiness to deepen economic cooperation and to consider the possibility of participation in major energy and infrastructure projects.
In particular, he expressed interest in the construction of Kambarata HPP-1 and China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railroad, noting their economic potential.
Sadyr Japarov thanked for the support in signing the new Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union, expressing confidence that it will strengthen the agreements reached and provide a new, modern and ambitious legal framework for future bilateral interaction.
The President added that Kyrgyzstan, thanks to its geographical location and transit potential, presents significant opportunities for trade and investment.
Along with the implementation of joint projects, the head of state noted that Kyrgyzstan is actively promoting the green agenda and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44 percent by 2030, as well as to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
As part of the initiative to develop a green economy and in order to jointly contribute to improving the environmental situation in the world, Sadyr Japarov proposed to consider the possibility of exchanging foreign debt for green projects.
The parties also exchanged views on the implementation of water management projects and introduction of modern, environmentally friendly technologies in the mining industry in Kyrgyzstan.
President Sadyr Japarov completed his working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium (Brussels), held on June 24-25. During the visit, the head of state held talks with King Philippe of Belgium, with the President of the European Council Charles Michel. The President also visited the Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC).
