Bishkek City Hall plans to charge fee for entry into city center by car

The Bishkek City Hall plans to charge a fee for entry into the city center and increase the parking rates. Mayor of the capital Aibek Dzhunushaliev announced at a joint meeting of the parliamentary factions Ata Jurt Kyrgyzstan, Ishenim, Yntymak and Mekenchil parliamentary group.

According to him, the experience of foreign countries is being considered in matters of limiting the movement of private cars in the central zone of the city («golden square») and increasing the parking rates.

«For example, in 2003, London introduced a fee for entry into the city to get rid of excess cars and associated traffic congestion. This scheme has reduced the number of cars by an average of 15 percent,» the mayor said.

He also noted that the municipality has chosen places for multi-level car parks, and work is underway to attract investments.
