The City Hall will reduce the number of trolleybuses, leaving only one large ring line. Mayor of Bishkek Aibek Dzhunushaliev stated at a joint meeting of the parliamentary factions Ata Jurt Kyrgyzstan, Ishenim, Yntymak and Mekenchil parliamentary group.
He made a report to deputies on the socio-economic situation in the capital and the work done by the municipality as part of the administrative-territorial reform.
According to the mayor, the total length of trolleybus lines is 210 kilometers, 70 percent of which have reached the end of their service life.
«Replacement of the lines is expensive; a meter costs $8. Therefore, we will reduce the number of trolleybuses and leave a large ring line (a square bounded by Chingiz Aitmatov Avenue, Akhunbaev Street, Kurmanjan Datka Street and Zhibek Zholu Avenue),» he said.
Aibek Dzhunushaliev emphasized that the municipality will dismantle all lines and supports on the remaining streets and will lay electrical and Internet cables under the ground.
«In order to protect the environment, electric buses will be introduced in the future. In 2023, based on an agreement with the Asian Development Bank with the support of the Parliament, the process of acquiring 120 electric buses was completed, and work is underway to prepare the electric charging infrastructure,» he noted.
According to the head of the city, there are currently 152 trolleybuses on the balance sheet of the City Hall. At least 100 of them are planned to be handed over to Osh city.
