The situation with whooping cough in Kyrgyzstan remains unfavorable. The Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis reported to 24.kg news agency.

In this regard, catch-up immunization continues and information work with people refusing vaccination is being carried out.

As representatives of the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital told 24.kg news agency, 64 patients diagnosed with pertussis are being treated in the hospital to date. Over the past 24 hours, 10 patients turned for medical assistance, five of them were hospitalized. One child is in the intensive care unit.

An increase in the incidence of whooping cough in the republic began in 2023. Most of the infected are not vaccinated due to refusal of parents.

Whooping cough is a dangerous respiratory disease. It lasts at least two weeks and occurs with paroxysmal coughing, worsening at night and in the morning. The cough is accompanied by redness of the face, noisy breaths, and ends with the discharge of viscous mucus or vomiting at the end of the attack. The infection is transmitted by airborne droplets. Whooping cough is highly contagious.

The best way to protect yourself from it is timely vaccination. Children are vaccinated against the whooping cough in the first year of life — at 2, 3.5 and 5 months. Revaccination is carried out at two years old.
