More than 90 percent of Kyrgyzstanis use the Internet. In 2017, this figure was 59 percent. Such data are presented in the media market study «Perception and Behavior of the Media Audience in Kyrgyzstan. 9th Wave», which was conducted by the research and consulting company M-Vector together with Internews in the Kyrgyz Republic.
Bishkek still has the most users (95 percent of residents), this figure reached 94 percent in Jalal-Abad region, and 92 percent each in Osh city and Talas region.
Of those surveyed, 83 percent said they use the Internet every day. Moreover, in 90 percent of cases they access the Internet through smartphones.
To the question «For what purposes do you use the Internet?» the most common answers were «social media» and «watching the news.» 43 percent of respondents also said that they use instant messengers (which are not specified) and watch videos.
It is worth noting that respondents could choose more than one answer.
Instagram is the most popular social media in Kyrgyzstan; it is used by 72 percent of Kyrgyzstanis. In second place is TikTok, it is popular among 69 percent of citizens. Next come Facebook, Odnoklassniki, VKontakte and X (Twitter).
On average, people spend from two to five hours on social media.
As M-Vector explained, a total of 3,636 people took part in the survey.
