Snowfalls, frosts to -15-20 degrees expected in Kyrgyzstan

A sharp weather change is expected in Kyrgyzstan with snowfalls in most parts of the country. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic, the weather in the country will change dramatically from December 9 to December 12, 2023. A gradual decrease in air temperature is expected, as well as snowfalls, sleet and snow drifts on the roads. In some areas, the western wind is expected to increase to 17-22 meters per second.

According to Kyrgyzhydromet, the following weather is expected on December 9-11:

In the Chui Valley at night to −10 degrees Celsius, in the north to −13 degrees, during the day to −5 degrees;
In Talas Valley at night to −12 degrees, during the day to −7 degrees;
In the valley zone of Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken regions at night from −3 to +2 degrees, during the day — to +8 degrees;
In the Issyk-Kul basin at night to −8 degrees, during the day to +3 degrees;
In the agricultural zone of Naryn region at night to −10 degrees, during the day — to −5 degrees;
In the foothills of Naryn region at night to −13 degrees, during the day to −8 degrees;
In the mountainous regions of Naryn region at night to −15 degrees, during the day to −10 degrees, in high mountain areas at night to −27 degrees, during the day to −10 degrees;
In Suusamyr Valley at night to −23 degrees, during the day to −9 degrees.

«Such weather conditions will complicate grazing and keeping livestock on pastures, the operation of vehicles, communications enterprises, energy and utility services,» the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted.

Due to the sudden weather change, the ministry recommends drivers to be careful when driving on the roads.

In addition, it is recommended:

To replace summer tires with winter ones;
When going on a long journey by car, take medicines, food, water, a shovel and a snow chain with you;
To maintain a distance of 500 meters between vehicles.
