Former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger has died at the age of 100. Reuters reported.
According to the media outlet, Henry Kissinger died on November 30 at his home in Connecticut. The place and date of the politician’s funeral have not yet been announced.
Henry Kissinger served as U.S. Secretary of State under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford. He is one of the authors of the American doctrine of «flexible response»; he advocated detente between the West and the East during the Cold War and the establishment of control over nuclear weapons.
Largely thanks to his efforts, the Soviet-American Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty (SALT-1) (1972) and the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (1972; the United States withdrew from it in 2002) were signed. He made a significant contribution to the conclusion of the quadrilateral agreement on West Berlin (1971), the Paris Agreements on the cessation of hostilities and the restoration of peace in Vietnam (1973). He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
