At least 4,484 cases of measles have been registered in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year. The Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis informed 24.kg news agency.
According to it, active circulation of the measles virus is observed in Bishkek, Jalal-Abad and Chui regions, where the virus is transmitted among unvaccinated children in organized groups. Active outbreaks are also registered in other areas.
«To bring the outbreak under control, catch-up immunization against measles and rubella is being carried out as part of routine immunization with the rubella-mumps-measles vaccine. The additional immunization campaign also continues in Bishkek, Osh, Osh and Chui regions, where 472,476 children (78 percent) have been vaccinated. In connection with the increase in measles cases in Jalal-Abad region, additional immunization has begun among children in organized groups. In addition, contact persons of all ages are urgently vaccinated within 72 hours,» the center said.
Specialists remind that measles is dangerous due to complications and urge parents to protect their children and vaccinate them.
Routine vaccination is carried out at 12 months and 6 years, as well as with additional dose from nine months to seven years inclusive at Family Medicine Centers, Family Doctor Groups, medical and obstetrical stations free of charge.
