Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan agreed on the supply of water for irrigated lands in Zhambyl region. The press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan reported.
As a result of negotiations in Bishkek, a decision was made to carry out measures to restore water supply through Tuite canal on Talas river.
The Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, noted the need to expand the list of water management facilities for interstate use to improve water supply to the country.
Kazakhstan proposes to add to this list Akmolda, Karataki and Tomentamga canals with structures on Kurkureusu river, Kolos canal on Shu river and Kozh canal with structures on Talas river.
«As you know, this year farmers from Zhambyl region experienced a shortage of irrigation water in Shu and Talas river basins. Therefore, it is very important for us to prevent a repetition of such a situation and to build the right work in advance on planning the next growing season in Shu and Talas river basins together with our Kyrgyz partners,» Nurzhan Nurzhigitov said.
The next meeting of the joint commission on the use of interstate water facilities on Shu and Talas rivers will be held on December 14 in Almaty.
In August, Kyrgyzstan stopped supplying irrigation water to the southern Zhambyl region of Kazakhstan, as a result of which a threat to agricultural crops was created in the region. The decision was caused by the acute shortage of water for the needs of Kyrgyzstan’s agricultural producers.
