As of the end of October 2023, grain crops (excluding legumes, rice and buckwheat) were harvested from an area of 579,500 hectares in Kyrgyzstan, which is 1.2 percent more than in the same period last year. The National Statistical Committee reported.
It is noted that 1.6 million tons of grain were threshed in the original registered weight, which is 15 percent less. The decrease in threshing volumes is due to a decrease in the yield of cereal crops by 28 percent compared to 2022. Due to abnormally high temperatures this summer during the growing season, the gross harvest of wheat decreased by 25.8 percent and barley — by 29.5 percent.
Earlier it was reported that Russia would ban the export of wheat. A draft government decision has been published banning the export of durum wheat from December 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan stressed that within the framework of the decisions of the EAEU, a forecast and indicative balance of supply and demand is annually compiled. Each state provides production forecasts for certain types of agricultural goods that can be exported, and the required volume for imports to cover the needs of the population.
