According to the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis, 3,618 cases of measles have been registered in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of 2023. The press center of the Ministry of Health reported.

According to it, the most cases (1,076) were registered in Bishkek, Osh (695), Jalal-Abad (650) and Chui (562) regions.

About 333 cases were registered in Osh city, 96 — in Batken region, 95 — in Talas region, 72 — in Issyk-Kul region and 39 — in Naryn region.

The vast majority—88 percent—of cases have been registered in children under 10. At least 87 percent of the infected, or 3,140 people, are not vaccinated against measles for various reasons.

Active circulation of the virus is observed in Bishkek, Jalal-Abad and Chui regions, where transmission occurs among unvaccinated children in organized groups.

To bring the measles outbreak under control, additional immunization is carried out among children from nine months to seven years old inclusive. In addition, contact persons of all ages are urgently vaccinated within 72 hours.

In general, the measles situation remains tense.

Vaccination coverage must reach more than 95 percent to stop transmission. As part of additional immunization campaign, 462,692 children have been vaccinated, which is 77 percent.
