Tokyo initiates Central Asia - Japan summit

Official Tokyo initiates holding of a summit in Central Asia — Japan format in 2024. The country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced following a meeting between the head of the ministry, Yoko Kamikawa, and the Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Murat Nurtleu, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

«The parties agreed that it would make sense to hold a dialogue in the Central Asia — Japan format at an appropriate time next year, and confirmed that Kazakhstan, the current chairman of this dialogue [format], and Japan will cooperate to coordinate it with other relevant countries,» the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, Yoko Kamikawa expressed her intention to cooperate in the development of «regional connections and energy transition.»

The U.S. President Joseph Biden on Tuesday met with the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan at the first presidential summit in the C5+1 format on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
