The electricity deficit in Kyrgyzstan is estimated at 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours this year. Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev announced at a press conference.
According to him, in the autumn-winter period it is planned to generate 14 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity at hydroelectric power stations. Additional 1.9 billion kilowatt-hours will be generated at the Bishkek Heating and Power Plant. Now it carries a load of 70-90 megawatts, in winter it will increase to 500 megawatts.
«Total consumption in Kyrgyzstan will be 17,400 billion kilowatt-hours. We plan to import a deficit of 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours. It means that we are short of 400 megawatts of power. We have planned and signed a contract to import 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from Turkmenistan for this year. Since September, it has already been supplied in transit through the networks of Uzbekistan. In addition, on August 16 we had a meeting of the Energy Council in Astana. There we agreed that 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours would be supplied by Kazakhstan,» Taalaibek Ibraev told.
He added that there is an agreement with the Russian company Inter RAO for additional 800 million kilowatt-hours. In winter it will supply 400 million kilowatt-hours.
«Our Uzbek colleagues, in addition to transit, will supply additional 250 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. In total, we will import 3.8 billion kilowatt-hours. We have a deficit of 3.2 billion kilowatt-hours, but we have taken it with a reserve. You never know what kind of winter it will be. Therefore, we have a reserve of 600 million kilowatt-hours,» he concluded.
