Director of the National Center Bakyt Rysbekov met in the Bishkek pretrial detention center 1 with defendants in the so-called Kempir-Abad case, who went on a hunger strike. The National Center for Prevention of Torture of Kyrgyzstan reports.

Based on the results of the conversations, it was found out that the general state of health of the prisoners is satisfactory. Bakyt Rysbekov warned them about the consequences of the hunger strike and recommended the institution’s administration to carefully monitor their health.

Earlier, the arrested told about violations on the part of the judge, noting that he constantly postpones hearings, does not consider petitions submitted by the defense, and does not allow the accused to get acquainted with the case materials.

Human rights activists also checked the cells where the women are kept. At the time of the visit, there were only 74 women, three of whom were pregnant. Statements and complaints about torture and ill-treatment were not received.

However, there were complaints about the prolongation of criminal proceedings both at the investigation stage and in court, as well as about lawyers who do not come to the trials without valid reasons.
