Agriculture Ministry of Kyrgyzstan comments on supply of water to Kazakhstan

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan has officially explained the situation with water supply to neighboring Kazakhstan.

According to the ministry, the Kirov reservoir has a design volume of 550 million cubic meters.

Water from the reservoir began to be released on April 21, 2023 with a reservoir volume of 445.6 million cubic meters. Water was supplied in accordance with the schedule and protocol on water distribution signed between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

To date, Kyrgyzstan has fulfilled all obligations to Kazakhstan.

As of August 22, 2023, the volume of the Kirov reservoir is 14.5 million cubic meters, which is 92.1 million less than last year. There is no increase in inflow, the water inflow in 2022 was 13.7 cubic meters per second.

Earlier, the Director of the Kyrgyz Research Institute of Irrigation under the Ministry of Agriculture, Ulan Chortombaev, reported on social media that Kyrgyzstan does not supply water to the Republic of Kazakhstan because there is no water in the reservoirs.

In such a way the official of the relevant department reacted to information in the media that Kazakh border guards do not pass trucks through the border, allegedly, due to the fact that the Kyrgyz side does not supply water to the neighboring state.
