At least 17 documents were signed during a visit of the Minister of Energy of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China (XUAR). Press service of the ministry reported.
The Cabinet of Ministers and the People’s Government of the XUAR agreed to cooperate in the field of energy and energy policy, technology, planning, and promote the interconnectivity of energy infrastructure in order to supply electricity.
The Ministry of Energy and the Chinese company Tebian Electric Apparatus Stock Co., Ltd. (TBEA) are going to build together a cascade of hydropower plants on Sary-Jaz river and a high-voltage power transmission line Kemin — Torugart.
«The purpose of construction of the 500 kilovolt high-voltage line between Kyrgyzstan and China is to connect the energy systems of the two countries for mutually beneficial bilateral electricity supplies, taking into account the implementation of large projects to introduce cascades of hydroelectric power plants and renewable energy sources in the Kyrgyz Republic,» the Ministry of Energy explained.
Chinese Railway Engineering Group Company No. 5 and Chinese Overseas Engineering Corporation will be involved in the construction of the Sary-Jaz cascade. An agreement was also signed.
But this is only the beginning. Kyrgyzkomur state enterprise is going to develop coal deposits together with Chinese colleagues:
Kyrgyzkomur and Irkeshtan Port Xingi International Trade Co. Ltd are going to build coal logistics centers at the Kyrgyz-Chinese border near Torugart checkpoint, and with Xinjiang Dacheng Yuanlong Technology Co., LTD in Xinjiang — next to Irkeshtam.
The Ministry of Energy, TBEA and Chakan HPP OJSC are exploring the possibility of cooperation in the field of energy projects, including the construction of small hydropower plants. In addition, a cooperation agreement was signed by the Ministry of Energy, the Green Energy Fund, NESK JSC and Molin Energy Company Limited. They are going to implement projects for the development of renewable energy sources with a capacity of 1.5 gigawatts. The PRC company initiates the preparation of a feasibility study report, exploration studies, environmental impact reports of the project, which must be completed within nine months, free of charge.
The Ministry of Energy also signed a memorandum with China Power Engineering Consulting Group International Engineering Co., Ltd. for the joint implementation of projects in the field of hydropower and renewable energy sources (wind, solar) with a total capacity of 3 gigawatts for the period until the end of 2027.
Another memorandum was signed with Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd. It concerns the joint implementation of projects in the field of renewable energy sources. It is construction of wind farms with a capacity of up to 3 gigawatts. It provides for training and advanced training of personnel, as well as an assessment of resources in the field of renewable energy in Kyrgyzstan.
