Activist from Chechnya Mansur Movlaev detained in Kyrgyzstan

Employees of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (SCNS) detained a civil activist from Chechnya, Mansur Movlaev, at Manas International Airport. The head of the human rights movement Bir Duino Kyrgyzstan Tolekan Ismailova told journalists.

Mansur Movlaev was placed in the SCNS pretrial detention center.

According to her, Mansur Movlaev is known for his sharp criticism of the Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov.

«He spoke out against human rights violations and political repression in Chechnya. In his statements and publications, the activist raised issues of violation of freedom of speech, arbitrariness of law enforcement agencies and other problems in the region. He was tortured in Russia,» the human rights activist noted.

In 2020, he was sentenced to three years in prison. Representatives of the opposition of the Russian Federation say that the case was fabricated.

In 2022, he was released on parole, but detained by police officers of Shalinsky district of Chechnya. He managed to escape from Russia and was put on the federal wanted list.

It is known that Mansur Movlaev has been in Kyrgyzstan since 2022.
