Energy Minister of Kyrgyzstan Taalaibek Ibraev told about plans to export electricity in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, construction of Kambarata HPP-2 is urgent in the republic in the near future. The Eurasian Development Bank allocated $110 million. A competition has been held, a company is being selected. Construction will start soon. The project will provide 150 megawatts of additional capacity. In addition, the Toktogul HPP is being reconstructed. After the reconstruction of two units, additional capacity will reach 120 megawatts.
«Further, we plan to build small hydropower plants for about 90-100 megawatts this year. This is taking into account Bala-Saruu on Kirov reservoir. This year, by winter, we must provide additional 173 megawatts. Next year, 689 megawatts should already be provided, in 2025 — 769 megawatts and in 2026 — 629 megawatts. In total, according to our plan, by 2026 our consumption and production should be equal. We have to generate 18,235 billion kilowatt-hours with consumption of 18.09 billion kilowatt-hours. Therefore, an emergency situation has been declared, and after 2026 we must start export,» Taalaibek Ibraev said.
«These are our plans. Approximately by 2030, we will have a generation of 27 billion kilowatt-hours with a consumption of about 20 billion. That is, we will sell 7 billion kilowatt-hours. By 2035 we should generate 40 billion kilowatt-hours with a consumption of 25 billion. This is when our large hydroelectric power plants Kambar-Ata-1, Kazarman, Sary-Jaz, the Upper Naryn Cascade will start working,» he concluded.
At the same time, Kyrgyzstan now imports electricity from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan. Only transportation is carried out from Uzbekistan.
«This year we get Turkmen and Russian electricity. We have an agreement with Turkmenenergo and InterRAO. InterRAO, as we plan, will supply us with about 1.5 billion kilowatt-hours by the end of the year and we will get 1.6 billion kilowatt-hours from Turkmenistan. Next year we plan to import 1.7 billion kilowatt-hours from Turkmenistan,» the minister said.
