The international expedition in search of Altai-Kyrgyz ethno-cultural ties «From Altai to Chatkal» has completed its work in the Tien Shan mountains. Big Asia portal reports.
The expedition was organized by the Osh State University with the participation of the Scientific and Educational Center for Altaic and Turkic Studies of the Altai State University and the Kyrgyz National University named after Zhusup Balasagyn.
Ethnographers of the two countries collected material for a comprehensive comparative study of the ethno-cultural parallels of the Kyrgyz and Altai peoples within the framework of the project «Turkic World of Greater Altai».
This is the fourth expedition within the framework of the project, starting from 2021. In addition to the organizers, experts from the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, the Gorno-Altaisk State University, the National Museum of the Republic of Altai, the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy, and the International University of Kyrgyzstan took part in it. The scientific consultant of the expedition was the director of the Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnology, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic Abylabek Asankanov.
According to the Director of the Institute of History and International Affairs of the Altai State University Ivan Nazarov, over the course of three years of work, scientists have been collecting ethnographic material that allows to talk about the common past of the Kyrgyz and Altai peoples.
«During the expedition of 2021 in Issyk-Kul region, then in 2022 in Chon-Alai region of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Altai Republic, our team studied the traditions that have survived to this day. They compared preserved crafts, methods of raising livestock, building a traditional Turkic dwelling — yurts, recipes for preparing national dishes. We found a lot in common, but also different. The current expedition supplemented the already collected material, and also brought new scientific discoveries,» he said.
